In 2019, the Marina Orth Foundation embarked on an ambitious dream: to bring technology, innovative methodologies, and new opportunities to the Ecotourism Educational Institution Litoral Pacífico in Nuquí, Chocó.
The challenge was enormous: damaged roofs, an underused computer lab, almost nonexistent connectivity, and a technological gap that limited learning. However, the goal was clear: to close educational gaps and equip teachers and students with the tools to compete in the 21st century.
What We Achieved Together
-439 XO Computers delivered, even reaching the students’ homes.
-13 Smart TVs installed in primary classrooms, connected to satellite internet for the first time.
-100% of the teachers trained in technological skills.
-Creation and strengthening of robotics, technology monitoring, and environmental clubs, with projects such as water filters and school alarms.
-Update of the Institutional Educational Project and curricular frameworks, integrating ecotourism and school research.
Beyond the Classrooms
In 2023, we launched a school garden pilot program, which became a living laboratory for learning about food sovereignty, research, and ancestral knowledge. Although the project did not continue in its original format, it left valuable lessons and a community more aware of its connection to the land.
Lasting Impact
-Decrease in school dropout rates thanks to engaging and context-based programs.
-Greater interest among children and youth in continuing their studies and dreaming of technological careers.
-Better-prepared teachers, using active and motivating methodologies.
Looking Toward the Future
In 2024 and 2025 we focus on the exit and sustainability strategy: to leave behind tools, policies, and a clear plan so that the institution and community can continue moving forward without directly depending on external partners.
Nuquí moves forward with technology, empowered teachers, and motivated students. A new chapter begins with the community as the main protagonist.
